The Bottle Shop

Latest acquisitions.

Great Western ‘Champagne’. Circa 1980.

For the canny investor, we have two vintage drops extremely hard to find and with an extraordinary pedigree. The word ‘legendary’ gets thrown about a bit these days, but that would barely describe these drops which would occupy a space in many an Australians more nostalgic and regretful memory’s. Seen here, not one but two bottles, gifts for a friends birthday in 1980. Somehow she managed to curb her instincts to chuck them down, and here we are now, the beneficiaries of that long ago hesitance. For quality assurance, the ‘piccolo’ has been sampled. Reviewers impressions are recorded below.

1980 Great Western Imperial Reserve Champagne. Possibly older. Plus ‘Piccolo’ of same.

1980 Southwark Bitter (S.A)

A beer doesn’t get to be called The Green Death for nothing.

Not even Vic Bitter managed to receive that accolade, though it quite possibly could have. No, Southwark (pronounced Suth-ick) Bitter just had all the runs in terms of being a crook beer. Reviews of the current Southwick bitter suggest little has improved. But as for this particular gem, the reviewer noted that it was flat, though with some traces of effervescence, and a flavour akin to a light sherry. But the worst light sherry imaginable, which is saying something. We have on offer this rare historical beer, only opened once, for the discerning collector.

Rare Southwick Bitter stubby. Circa 1980. Only opened once.

And the point is… Look, commerce is invariably such grubby business, distasteful and avoided wherever possible, but so is selfishness. With that in mind, both of these treasures will be made available to the lady or gentleman who desires them most. Sorry, the pair have been inseparable over the last four decades, so they will be offered together, not separately. It is preferred that you make contact by email and enclose a suitable amount of money to put you ahead of the other bidders. Good luck.
